Start in CHAI first
Department of Health applicants start their own screening through the Clearinghouse Applicant Initiated system (CHAI). Create or update your CHAI profile before your appointment, and complete the Privacy Policy Affirmation in your MQA Online Services account so the Department can see your results.
Your ORI number
The Board of Nursing publishes these ORI numbers: EDOH4420Z for RN, LPN, and APRN applicants, and EDOH0380Z for certified nursing assistants. Other professions have their own ORI, listed on the Department’s background screening page.
A missing or wrong ORI means the board never receives your results, so double-check it against your application.
At your appointment
Bring a valid photo ID, your ORI, and your Social Security number or ITIN. We capture your fingerprints and a photo. Ask for your TCN before you leave, because the Department can’t look it up for you.
After your appointment
Results go to the Clearinghouse and usually load into your licensure file within 24 to 72 hours. Board staff then review them.
Your prints are kept for five years. Renew the retention when the Department’s renewal window opens so you don’t have to be fingerprinted again.
